Intro to MIG Welding: Your First Step into Welding! Spice Level 🌶️
Taught by The Department of Spontaneous Combustion
Join us at Seaport Studios for an exciting introduction to MIG welding, designed for beginners who want to master the basics of machine use and safety before moving on to more advanced projects. In this single-day class, you’ll build a solid foundation in welding techniques.
The day begins with essential safety training and an introduction to MIG (GMAW) equipment. Known as the "hot glue gun" of welding, MIG welding is a straightforward and efficient method where you feed wire into a molten puddle of metal to fuse two pieces together. You’ll spend the class running beads and learning how to control the machine with confidence.
In the end you will weld four panels together to make a beautiful little candle lantern for your home.
This is the perfect place to start if you’re new to welding. MIG welding is highly efficient and is possible to set up at home with a 110v outlet.
Please wear all natural fibers such as cotton jeans, t-shirts, wool or leather. Wear closed toed shoes. Synthetic shoes such as sneakers, not advised. Synthetic fabrics, such as polyester, nylon and spandex melt and stick to skin when heated. Do not wear synthetic clothing when working with fire.
Clay and Steel is located at Seaport Studios in Richmond, CA. Seaport Studios is a studio space filled with individually owned private art businesses. It is an active working shop. Expect there to be fire, noise, welders, grinders, woodworkers, artists, shop dogs and shop cats.
It is possible we will be sharing anvils in this class. You may have to share an anvil.
This smithy aims to feel like a safe place for all people. We are strong LGBTQ+ allies and treat fellow students with respect.
